Caries Detection and Control

Caries, more commonly known as tooth decay and cavities, can significantly affect your oral health. At Mountain Dentistry, we are dedicated to helping you remain in optimal oral health, which is why we provide caries detection and control. At each regular appointment, we will carefully look for signs of decay in your mouth and create a custom treatment plan to help you return to optimal oral health and remain cavity-free in the future. To detect these cavities, we may use the DIAGNOdent laser cavity detection system as well as traditional dental tools.

Once the caries have been treated, we will work with you and help you maintain your newly restored oral health. If you have any questions about tooth decay, cavities, or any of our preventive and general dentistry services, we invite you to call our office in Park City today.

In some cases, Dr. Kimche must extract (pull) a tooth in order to maintain or improve your oral health. Extractions are often our last choice when trying to improve your oral health; if at all possible, an alternative treatment, such as root canal therapy, will be recommended instead. When an extraction is necessary, however, you can rest assured that they are performed with the utmost care and gentleness. Dr. Kimche can extract a tooth in just one appointment at Mountain Dentistry in Park City. Following the extraction, remember to follow Dr. Kimche’s care instructions so that you can more quickly return to normal life. As always, feel free to contact our office if you have any questions or if you are experiencing any dental pain to receive the care you need.

Prophylaxis (Cleanings) and Exams

Regular cleanings and exams are provided at every six-month appointment at Mountain Dentistry. During the cleaning portion of your visit, Beata, our hygienist, will carefully remove plaque and calculus that has built up on the teeth. She will also polish your teeth to remove surface stains and any leftover plaque. As part of your exam, Dr. Kimche will evaluate your mouth for signs of tooth decay, periodontal (gum) disease, and oral cancer. He will also review your digital dental X-rays and examine your current dental restorations (crowns, bridges, fillings, etc.) to ensure that they are still working properly for you.

Attending your regular cleanings and exams at the dentist’s office is essential to maintaining optimal oral health and preventing tooth decay and gum disease. If it has been over six months since you or your children have last visited the dentist, call Mountain Dentistry today to schedule an appointment. We look forward to helping you achieve a healthier smile!

To protect certain teeth against decay, Dr. Kimche may recommend dental sealants. A dental sealant is a thin, tooth-colored or clear covering that is placed over the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. Sealants are beneficial because they prevent food, bacteria, and plaque from accumulating in the pits and grooves of the chewing surfaces while simultaneously creating a smooth surface that is easier to keep healthy through daily brushing.

We recommend having sealants placed on the back molars as soon as they erupt, which usually occurs between the ages of six and twelve. Dr. Kimche can place a dental sealant in just a few minutes, so if you are looking to improve your or your child’s oral health, give us a call today to schedule a sealant appointment at Mountain Dentistry!
