Migraine Headaches

Headaches are perhaps the most annoying experiences that anyone would have to go through. While having a headache once in a while is so annoying, having persistent headaches is even worse. And when it turns into a migraine, the feeling is simply the worst. It can affect your everyday activities and make it very difficult for you to function normally.

While several over-the-counter medications are available that provide short-term relief, they do not reach the roots of the cause and get rid of it completely. When the condition gets worse, pills wouldn’t have even the slightest effect. In many cases, identifying the cause of the headache becomes essential. This is where dental care would prove quite helpful.

Headaches and migraine

Headache is one of the most severe forms of pain in the internal tissues. Patients who suffer from persistent headaches display reduced levels of tolerance, nausea, vomiting, flashes of light appearing in the vision, intolerance to bright lights and loud noises, hallucinations, insomnia, etc. In simpler terms, their quality of life would reduce significantly as they often tend to be in pain and would refrain from indulging in any physical activities as it could worsen the headache.

When there is an issue with the alignment of the spine, it could directly affect the nerves that emerge from it. This results in irritated and strained nerves. Such a tightness in the nerves can give rise to an acute form of headache, which is termed as migraine. Migraine is intense and persists for a longer time. Treating migraine with mere medications, in most cases, wouldn’t yield the expected results. The root cause of the condition has to be addressed to get relief from it.

TMJ disorder

The TMJ or Temporomandibular Joint is responsible for all the movements of the lower jaw. Biting, chewing, talking, yawning, laughing, and pretty much every oral action involves the TMJ. These joints could undergo excessive straining when a lot of stress is applied to them, making them inflamed. Over time, it would result in limited movement of the lower jaw and even lead to persistent headaches. The pain is known to affect the nearby tissues as well.

Treatment

Treating a migraine requires highly-trained hands. Dr. Kimche will diagnose you thoroughly and identify the root cause of the migraine. After the initial examination, you may have to undergo a scan so that the dentist can diagnose the underlying tissues and get a better understanding of the condition. Based on the observations, suitable treatment will be suggested to help alleviate the ailment.
